This talk covers the shape of those changes: how table metadata is being restructured, how tables are becoming less tied to a physical location, how the spec is growing to carry data types that used to live outside the table, and what all of that means for engines that have to read and write it. Drawn from Snowflake's work implementing V4 and contributing proposals upstream.
Matt Sidley is a Senior Manager of Product Management at Snowflake, where he leads product for the data lake and storage platform, including Snowflake's Iceberg storage and interoperability work. He works closely with the Snowflake engineers contributing V4 spec proposals to Apache Iceberg.

🌟 From AWS Glue to Snowflake Horizon: An Iceberg Migration in Two Phases
Booking.com’s move from Hadoop to AWS enabled a growing Iceberg data lake alongside widespread Snowflake adoption. It also left us coordinating two catalogs, requiring synchronization machinery, different table representations, and split operational responsibilities.
This session examines our ongoing evolution from AWS Glue toward Snowflake Horizon and its Polaris-based Iceberg REST interface. We explain the two-phase approach: first route external engines through Horizon while Glue remains the catalog of record, then convert eligible tables to Snowflake-managed Iceberg while retaining customer-owned S3 storage.
We share lessons from testing the new catalog path, updating existing workflows, and preparing for table conversion. Attendees will learn how to stage an Iceberg catalog migration, catch compatibility issues early, and reduce disruption to users.
Shreyam Sinha is a Senior Software Engineer at Booking.com with seven years of experience building and operating large-scale data platforms. His work spans Hadoop, cloud data lakes, and Apache Iceberg, focusing on making data infrastructure reliable, maintainable, and easier to use.

🌟Agentic Readiness Starts in the Iceberg Catalog
AI agents get smarter by learning from each other: one agent writes a memory or drafts a skill, and the whole fleet reuses it. That reciprocity is also the risk. A single poisoned email can turn into a “helpful” skill that every agent follows the next day, with no record of who wrote it or who approved it. That’s why most agent projects stall at the CISO.
We will talk how to make agents CISO-ready with the same lakehouse machinery that already governs your data. Lakekeeper, the open-source Apache Iceberg REST catalog, gives every agent its own identity, OpenFGA grants and short-lived vended credentials scoped to its own datasets. Agents can propose skills but hold no key to publish them. A governance agent triages proposals with versioned rules it can’t change, a human approves, and every decision lands in an audit log and an Iceberg decision log.
Live demo included: three agents, one human, and a catalog that keeps saying no.
Viktor Kessler is Co-Founder of Vakamo and the creator of Lakekeeper, an Apache-licensed Iceberg REST Catalog. He’s a big believer in open standards like Apache Iceberg, which he sees as the backbone of today’s modern, composable Data & Analytics systems.

🌟 Designing a Multi-Engine Lakehouse with Apache Iceberg: One Table, Many Engines
What if one Iceberg table could power your entire analytics stack—from interactive queries in DuckDB to batch processing in Spark, ad-hoc exploration in Trino, and real-time dashboards in StarRocks? This talk explores how Apache Iceberg enables true multi-engine interoperability through its spec-compliant design, catalog decoupling, and powerful metadata model. We’ll walk through architectural patterns for building a shared data layer across diverse compute engines without sacrificing consistency, performance, or flexibility. Whether you’re modernizing a legacy data warehouse or building a new lakehouse from scratch, this talk shows you how to get the most from Iceberg—once, write anywhere; query everywhere.

Gilad is CEO of LakeOps

🌟 Delivering Data Sovereignty in the Agentic Era With OSS
AI agents have introduced governance requirements that most data platforms were not originally designed to meet. Even well-architected lakehouses are still catching up. Humans can navigate ambiguity, file a ticket, or ask a colleague when access is unclear. Agents work with whatever is in front of them, which makes ungoverned data not an inconvenience but a production risk. This session explores how Apache Iceberg, Apache Polaris, and Apache Ossie (incubating), a new open specification for semantic interchange entering the Apache Incubator, give organisations a vendor-neutral foundation for enforcing data sovereignty without lock-in.
The semantic layer has emerged as the connective tissue between raw lakehouse access and governed, business-ready data, and open catalog standards are increasingly the mechanism through which organisations keep control as data volumes, regulatory complexity, and agentic workloads all grow simultaneously.
Will Martin is Dremio’s Data & AI Evangelist. Starting out with statistical analysis in particle physics, his professional journey has spanned multiple industries, including banking, shipping logistics, entertainment, healthcare, defence, and customer 360. With experience as a data engineer, solutions architect, and software developer, he has spent 15+ years collaborating with companies and organisations across EMEA and APAC, including roles at CERN, Deloitte, and Tamr.","2026-11-19T16:00:00.000Z","2026-11-19T20:00:00.000Z","Europe/Amsterdam","in-person
null,"Amsterdam",52.37606561752027,4.907069213547853
"Vakamo (Lakekeeper)","vakamo-lakekeeper","https://luma.com/vakamo","https://images.lumacdn.com/uploads/kj/49e07876-2015-4b1e-a772-fda384eeeeb5.jpg",true,"amsterdam",[28,29],"ai-agents","platform-devops",9.6,false,"scheduled","2026-11-03T04:20:34.377Z",[35,51,66
"luma:evt-5ynGGxaokhFV8DA","blockchain-meets-ai-2026-11-18","https://luma.com/hovkpcus","Blockchain Meets AI","2026-11-18T16:30:00.000Z","2026-11-18T19:30:00.000Z
52.336152201347964,4.8705507137179245
"BCNL Foundation","bcnl-foundation","https://images.lumacdn.com/uploads/z0/a8f55ca1-900d-4ab7-ba3d-146adc359fd1.png",[28,50,29],"llms-genai
"meetup:316566571","ai-native-engineering-coding-agents-memory-and-collabora-2026-11-25","meetup","https://www.meetup.com/ai-native-amsterdam/events/316566571/","AI-Native Engineering: Coding Agents, Memory & Collaboration","2026-11-25T17:00:00.000Z
"Xebia Netherlands BV","Wibautstraat 200, 1091 TJ Amsterdam, Netherlands, Amsterdam, NH
"AI Native Netherlands","ai-native-netherlands","https://www.meetup.com/ai-native-amsterdam/",[28,50,29
"luma:evt-rFZvs4HWo7YIXsu","python-leiden-november-meetup-2026-11-12","https://luma.com/ftmhhm1a","Python Leiden November meetup","2026-11-12T18:15:00.000Z","2026-11-12T21:00:00.000Z
"Technolab Leiden","Technolab Leiden, Betaplein 28, 2321 KS Leiden, Netherlands","Leiden",52.146164999999996,4.4928094
"Python Leiden","python-leiden","https://luma.com/pythonleiden","https://images.lumacdn.com/uploads/uy/8d87547d-5213-4bd4-bfed-bc10b96eab91.jpg",[29,28],1793701964457]
